This Amsterdam Sandwich is a traditional dish cooked in the province of Amsterdam but it does not mean we can't have Amsterdam in our backyards. This is the perfect recipe for a summer BBQ. Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread (wholegrain)
  • 150 grams turkey pastrami (cut into thin slices)
  • 1 tomato (thinly sliced)
  • 2/3 cup fresh basil
  • 5 walnuts
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese (grated)
  • salt and ground black pepper
  • cheese (Melting, such as mozzarella)

Directions

  1. Toast the bread.
  2. Grind the basil, nuts, parmesan cheese, and olive oil together in a food processor. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Spread one slice of bread with the pesto and top with pastrami slices. Layer with the tomato slices and sprinkle with cheese
  4. Broil until the cheese melts. Serve.

This was one of the best sandwiches I have had in a long time. It was definitely worthy of making again… and again. I never seem to think to add pesto to my sandwiches, and often only use it in pasta. I am so glad I came across this recipe. I will absolutely make this again.
