Description

Who says apple strudel is just a dessert? We certainly don't. Bring all the deliciousness of the Austrian favorite to your dinner table with this savor Alheira Sausage and Apple Strudel. Featuring flaky layers of phyllo dough wrapped around a savory sausage, apple, and spinach filling this savory strudel will steal the show at dinner time. Be sure to brush each layer of phyllo with butter so that it does not dry out! Bake time is 20 to 25 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 onions (chopped)
  • 1 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • olive oil
  • 2 sausages (alheira, peeled and mashed)
  • 100 grams spinach leaves
  • 2 apples (Rennet, diced)
  • 4 sheets phyllo pastry
  • butter (to taste, for greasing)
  • salad (Arugula)

Directions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. 2Stew the onion and garlic in a little bit of olive oil, until translucent.
  3. 3Add the sausage, stirring occasionally, until well mixed.
  4. 4Add the spinach leaves and diced apples.
  5. 5When apples and spinach are soft, remove from heat.
  6. 6Lay out the filo pastry sheets carefully, brush with butter.
  7. 7Place one top of the other.
  8. 8Place the apple and sausage filling in the middle of the filo pastry.
  9. 9Roll up the dough, and make small cuts on the top.
  10. 10Brush with a little more butter, and bake in a greased baking tray, for 20 to 25 minutes at 180 C.
  11. 11Serve with an arugula salad.
