It's that time of year when summer winds down and the kids gear up for school. While your focus may be on books, supplies and back-to-school clothes, don't forget about the food. Everyone is busy, but it's still important to eat healthy, both at home and in school; remember that a large part of healthy eating is keeping food fresh. Apples: To prevent apples from turning brown quickly, you should core them, slice them, and soak them in a mixture of lemon juice (1 tablespoon) and water (1 cup) for 3-5 minutes. Drain the apples, and store them in the fridge in Glad Zipper Bags, with as much air squeezed out as possible.

Watermelon: This summer favorite must be kept out of the fridge until ripe. When it's ready, put it in the fridge, whole and uncovered. Once cut, store the watermelon slices in Glad Zipper Bags in the fridge.


Kale: This popular super food should be stored unwashed with the stems on. Wrap kale leaves in a dry paper towel before placing in a Glad Zipper 2-in-1 Gallon Bag in the coldest part of the fridge. If the kale is already cut, simply store it in the fridge in a GladWare food protection container.

Carrots: This tasty and healthy snack food can be stored in the fridge, unpeeled with the tops cut off, in a Glad Zipper 2-in-1 Gallon Bag; remember to squeeze out all the air. If the carrots are already peeled or cut, simply keep them in a GladWare food protection container.


Chicken: To store uncooked chicken, wrap each individual, unwashed piece in Glad Cling Wrap, and place into either a GladWare food protection container or bag.

Turkey: To keep this lean meat fresh, wrap individual breasts in Glad Cling Wrap before storing in GladWare food protection container or a Zipper Bag. Don't Let it be that one that got away!


Salmon: Keeping salmon fresh means keeping it dry. Pat your fillets with a paper towel, and store the fish in a large GladWare container you lined with paper towels. If you need to stack the fillets, put paper towels in between the layers, and top off with a final paper towel. Place the container on ice if available.

Baked Goods

Cookies: Wrap cookie dough in Glad Cling Wrap, and store in the fridge in a plastic bag. Once baked, keep cooled cookies in the fridge in a GladWare container. Make sure to separate soft and crispy cookies.
