Make Your Own Taco Seasoning Mix
Store bought mixes are convenient, but they're filled with all kinds of unnecessary preservatives. There's a very high chance that most home cooks already have the right ingredients needed for a delicious taco mix without even realizing it! All you need is a very basic collection of spices and an airtight container (if you want to make a whole batch of it). It's simple, easy, and if you already have the spices, it'll save you money too.
- 1 1/2 tsp paprika*
- 3 tsp ground cumin*
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper*
- 1 1/4 tsp oregano*
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 tsp sea salt (or regular)
- 1 tsp black pepper
*Note: You can substitute the paprika, cumin, cayenne, and oregano for 1 tablespoon of chili powder, if you want. If you do, just supplement it with 1/4 teaspoon more of oregano, 1/2 tsp more of paprika, and another teaspoon of cumin for good measure.
All you need to do is mix together all of the ingredients! If you store them in an airtight container, it should stay fresh and flavorful for 3-6 months. It's super easy, you'll save money, and it tastes much better than store bought too!
