  • 1 cup garbanzo beans (dried, soaked in water to cover overnight and drained)
  • 1 cup fava beans (dried shelled, soaked overnight and drained)
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion (peeled and finely chopped)
  • 3 garlic cloves (peeled and crushed)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sesame seeds
  • 1/2 cup flour (garbanzo, also called "ceci" flour, found in Italian markets)
  • 1/4 cup bulgur (fine)
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley (finely)
  • 3/4 tbsp salt
  • 2 tsps ground cumin
  • 2 tsps ground coriander
  • 2 tsps baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper (fresh)
