  • 1 box chocolate cake (I use Devil's Food Cake Mix (18.25 oz))
  • 1 cup buttermilk (see substitute at end of recipe)
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil (can use canola oil)
  • 4 large eggs ()
  • 5 large egg whites ()
  • 4 sticks salted butter (softened)
  • 1.5 cups sugar ()
  • 2 tbsps sugar ()
  • 3 tsps pure vanilla extract ()
  • 4 tbsps water ()
  • 0.5 cups heavy cream ()
  • 4 cups pretzels (coarsely chopped - mini salted)
  • 1 jar caramel sauce ()
  • 24 cupcakes (standard cupcake liners)
