How would you describe your culinary style?
My culinary style is 80% “fresh / local / sustainable” cooking and 20% “nostaligic / somewhat “bad” for you / everything in moderation” cooking. While my diet and the recipes I make mostly consist of fresh, local, organic ingredients, there is a part of me that just can’t give up eating my mom’s Jell-O salad and my “In a Jiffy” (ie, from a box) corn casserole, both long time family favorites. As I said, everything in moderation!
What is the main source of inspiration for your recipes?
In the spring, summer, and fall, the majority of my recipe inspiration comes from the farmers’ market … I could stroll through for hours, picking out interesting fruits and veggies and coming up with recipes to use them in. I also get a lot of inspiration from my fellow food bloggers. Oh, my ridiculous amount of cookbooks (which tend to be bedtime reading for me) also provide a ton of inspiration!
If you could have one food while stranded on a desert island, what would it be?
That’s a tough question! Narrowing it down to two or three would be easy … cheese, olives, a loaf of crusty bread … that’s been my dinner many a night. But, if I had to pick just one … it would be cheese. Yep, I’m 99% sure it would be cheese.
For someone new to your blog, which recipe do you recommend they try first?
Actually, I think I’d chose my recipe for Gluten-Free Jalapeno Mac and Cheese. I didn’t set out to create a gluten-free recipe, it just kind of happened … but it was delicious (and fairly healthy), and I’ve gotten rave reviews for it. It’s spicy, yet comforting at the same time.
What is your ultimate guilty food pleasure?
White Fudge Covered Oreo cookies. I could eat an entire box in one sitting.
