Store bought mixes are convenient, but they’re filled with all kinds of unnecessary preservatives. There’s a very high chance that most home cooks already have the right ingredients needed for a delicious taco mix without even realizing it! All you need is a very basic collection of spices and an airtight container (if you want to make a whole batch of it). It’s simple, easy, and if you already have the spices, it’ll save you money too.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 tsp paprika*
- 3 tsp ground cumin*
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper*
- 1 1/4 tsp oregano*
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 tsp sea salt (or regular)
- 1 tsp black pepper
*Note: You can substitute the paprika, cumin, cayenne, and oregano for 1 tablespoon of chili powder, if you want. If you do, just supplement it with 1/4 teaspoon more of oregano, 1/2 tsp more of paprika, and another teaspoon of cumin for good measure.
Directions:
All you need to do is mix together all of the ingredients! If you store them in an airtight container, it should stay fresh and flavorful for 3-6 months. It’s super easy, you’ll save money, and it tastes much better than store bought too!
