How would you describe your culinary style?
I come from a traditional old school Indian family where breakfast means poori aloo with buttermilk at 7 am in the morning and kitchen is the center point of the whole family. That reflects in my culinary style too – simple, approachable and comforting Indian food with my own modern twist.
What is the main source of inspiration for your recipes?
I am just a normal everyday cook who gets inspired with what’s in my pantry on a particular day. Some hungry faces in my family every evening inspire me too. An hour long chat with my mom discussing my grandma’s signature dish inspires me and so does the fresh seasonal produce at my local farmer’s market. Simple day to day life experiences keep me excited about cooking simple and comforting food.
If you could have one food while stranded on a desert island, what would it be?
Oh, that’s a no brainer for me. I can live on warm daal chawal (lentil soup with steamed basmati rice) and some ghee drizzled over it.
For someone new to your blog, which recipe do you recommend they try first?
My blog is all about making Indian food approachable to everyone. So not just from my blog but even when asked in general what Indian recipe should a person try if they are making it for the first time, I say try a simple tadka daal (tempered lentil soup) with some steaming hot naans or soft, paper thin roti.
What is your ultimate guilty food pleasure?
Chocolate. Period.
