Ah, April Fool’s. A day relished by pranksters and dreaded by their victims. We think the best kind of tricks involve food, because who can resist being tempted into eating a favorite snack? Feel free to try out some of the pranks below, but please proceed with caution!
Sriracha was an Ingredient of the Year in both Bon Appetit and Saveur last year, but I’m not sure if they meant as a dessert ingredient. If you know someone who puts hot sauce on everything, make them some sriracha ice cream and see if they can guess the flavor!
Make a batch of deviled eggs, but substitute the usual filling with some yellow frosting and a sprinkling of cinnamon. Your victims will be utterly revolted by the unexpectedly sweet taste.
This looks like your average grilled cheese sandwich, but it is actually pound cake with orange colored frosting. Genius!
Carefully break open a few Oreos and remove the icing with a knife. Replace it with a thin layer of white toothpaste and put the cookies back together. Leave them right at the opening of the package for the cookie monster who will be unable to resist their favorite sandwich cookie.
Put sugar in the salt shaker and salt in the sugar bowl. This one is obvious, but tricky nonetheless! Note: only do this if you are willing to buy the victim a replacement meal or drink.
A scoop of vanilla ice cream and some caramel sauce can make for some very convincing mashed potatoes!
Decorate a large car washing sponge with icing, whipped cream and sprinkles so it looks like a cake. Leave it out at work or at home and surely someone will help themselves to a slice. Make sure you stick around to see them furiously struggle to cut a piece! When they complain, just tell them it’s a sponge cake.
Remove the plastic bags from two cereal boxes and switch them around. Someone will be very confused in the morning when they go for some Cinnamon Toast Crunch and get Raisin Bran.
Late at night on March 31st, place a few drops of green food coloring into the milk carton. When someone goes to pour milk into their cereal or coffee in the morning, they will think the milk is terribly, terribly bad.
